Instead of opening individual NHL score pages and manually counting wins, losses, high-scoring games and consecutive results, you can select a date range and generate a structured view of the teams that played during that period.
The tracker focuses on practical NHL team statistics that can help users understand recent performance. The rankings include games played, wins, losses, winning percentage, current winning streak, current losing streak, Over results, Under results, Push results, consecutive Over streaks, consecutive Under streaks, average shots on goal, average goals scored, average goals allowed and average combined goals per game.
The default total-goals benchmark is set to 6.2. It is a rounded reference based on the 2025β26 NHL league average of about 3.08 goals per team per game, or about 6.16 combined goals per game. It is not a sportsbook line for a specific game, and users can replace it with any preferred benchmark such as 5.5, 6.0, 6.5, 7.0 or another custom value.
Every major statistical category can be sorted directly in the NHL team rankings table. What Is an NHL Team Trends Tracker?
An NHL team trends tracker combines multiple completed hockey games and converts their results into team-level statistics. A normal NHL scoreboard tells you the final result of an individual matchup. A trends tracker is intended to answer broader questions about how teams have performed across several games.
For example, users may want to identify which NHL teams have won most frequently during the previous two weeks, which clubs are currently on winning streaks, which teams are allowing the fewest goals, which teams are producing the highest combined game totals or which teams have repeatedly finished above a selected total-goals benchmark.
Custom date selection is particularly useful because NHL performance can change substantially throughout a long regular season. Full-season standings remain important, but season-long records can hide shorter changes in team form. A strong club may struggle during a difficult road trip, while another team may improve following roster changes, healthier goaltending, stronger special teams or a favorable schedule.
Using multiple date ranges can provide additional context. A seven-day NHL trends search emphasizes immediate form. A fourteen-day range gives a somewhat larger sample, while a thirty-day range provides a broader picture. NHL Wins, Losses and Winning Percentage
Wins and Losses
Every completed NHL game produces a winner. The tracker examines completed events with valid final scores and records a win for the team with the higher final score. The opposing team receives a loss for this simplified result analysis. The displayed loss category therefore represents all games the team lost in the selected sample rather than separating regulation losses and overtime or shootout losses for official standings purposes.
Total wins are especially useful when teams have played approximately the same number of games during the selected period. However, NHL schedules are not perfectly uniform across short calendar ranges. One club may play four games in a week while another plays only two or three. This is why the tool also includes winning percentage.
Winning Percentage
Winning percentage is calculated by dividing wins by completed games included in the selected analysis range. If a team wins four of five games, its simple win percentage for the sample is 80 percent. A team winning five of eight games has more total victories but a lower percentage.
Sorting NHL teams by winning percentage can therefore be more useful than sorting only by wins when the number of games differs. Sample size still matters. A 100 percent record across two games represents much less information than a strong record across ten or fifteen games.
NHL Winning Streaks and Losing Streaks
The winning streak category measures consecutive victories ending with the most recent completed game contained in the selected date range. If a team won each of its most recent four games in the sample, its displayed winning streak is four. Losing streaks are calculated using the same process for consecutive losses.
The displayed streak is limited to the games actually loaded by the tool. If a team's official winning streak began before the selected start date, the number shown here may be shorter than the team's official current streak. Expanding the date range can provide additional historical context.
Streaks are useful descriptions of recent results, but they should not be interpreted as guarantees of future performance. NHL outcomes can be influenced by opponent strength, starting goaltenders, injuries, travel, back-to-back games, special teams, overtime, empty-net situations and natural scoring variance.
NHL Total Goals and Over-Under Trend Analysis
A central feature of this NHL statistics page is customizable total-goals analysis. The tool adds the final scores of both teams to calculate a combined game total. For example, a 4β3 final score produces seven combined goals, while a 2β1 result produces three combined goals.
Each combined score is compared with the total-goals benchmark entered in the Analysis Settings panel. If the combined score is higher than the selected number, the game is classified as Over. If the combined score is lower, it is classified as Under. If the combined score exactly equals the selected benchmark, the result is classified as Push.
Why the Default NHL Total Is 6.2 Goals
The default value of 6.2 goals is used as a rounded league-level historical scoring reference. The 2025β26 NHL league average was about 3.08 goals per team per game, or about 6.16 combined goals per game. This makes it possible to compare each team's recent combined game totals with a consistent starting benchmark.
The 6.2 value is not a bookmaker opening line, closing line or recommended betting total. Actual sportsbook totals are game-specific and can vary based on the teams involved, expected goaltenders, injuries, recent performance, home and road splits, market movement and other information.
Because the benchmark is editable, users can perform the same historical analysis with a more traditional half-goal value such as 5.5 or 6.5. A 6.5 benchmark cannot produce a Push because completed NHL combined scores are whole numbers.
Over Results
Suppose the selected benchmark is 6.2 goals. A game ending 4β3 produces seven combined goals, so it is classified as Over. A 5β2 result also produces seven goals and is classified as Over. The Over column counts how many of each team's games exceeded the selected benchmark during the chosen analysis period.
Under Results
With a 6.2 benchmark, a 3β2 final produces five combined goals and is classified as Under. A 2β1 result produces three goals and is also Under. The Under category counts all qualifying games below the selected threshold.
Push Results
A Push occurs when the combined score exactly matches the selected value. For example, if a user changes the benchmark to 6.0 and a game finishes 4β2, the total is exactly six and the result is classified as Push. Decimal values that cannot equal a whole-number final score, such as 6.2 or 6.5, naturally produce no Push results.
NHL Consecutive Over and Under Streaks
The NHL tracker does more than count total Over and Under results. It also calculates the ending Over streak and Under streak for every team. The calculation begins with the most recent completed game in the selected range and moves backward until a different classification appears.
Imagine a team's recent combined totals were eight, seven, nine, five and four goals against a 6.2 benchmark, with the eight-goal game being the most recent. The latest three games are all Over, so the active Over streak is three. The earlier five-goal result ends that sequence.
An Under streak works in the same way. If a whole-number benchmark creates a Push, that Push interrupts both Over and Under streaks. Changing the benchmark and loading the results again can therefore produce completely different O/U counts and consecutive streak values.
Average NHL Goals Scored Per Game
Average goals scored, displayed as GF/G, measures a team's offensive scoring output during the selected period. The tool adds all goals scored by the team and divides the result by completed games.
If a club scores four, three, five and two goals across four games, it has scored fourteen goals and averages 3.5 goals per game. Sorting the rankings by GF/G makes it easy to identify the highest-scoring offenses in the current sample.
Goals per game should still be interpreted in context. Opponent quality, goaltending, power-play opportunities, empty-net goals and overtime can all affect short-term scoring averages. A small number of unusually high-scoring games can also raise the average substantially when the selected date range is short.
Average NHL Goals Allowed Per Game
Average goals allowed, displayed as GA/G, measures opponent scoring against each team. The calculation adds all goals surrendered during completed games and divides the total by games played in the selected range.
Lower GA/G values generally indicate that the team has allowed fewer goals during the period, but goals allowed are influenced by more than defensive ability alone. Goaltending, penalty killing, empty-net goals, opponent shooting quality, turnovers, schedule strength and game state can all influence the statistic.
Comparing GF/G and GA/G together can provide a more balanced picture of recent team performance. A team averaging 4.0 goals while allowing 2.2 has a very different statistical profile from a club averaging 4.0 while allowing 4.3.
Average Combined NHL Game Total
Total/G represents the average combined score of games involving each team. It is calculated by adding goals scored and goals allowed and dividing the result by completed games.
For example, a team averaging 3.4 goals scored and 2.8 goals allowed has an average combined game total of approximately 6.2. Teams near the top of the Total/G ranking have recently participated in higher-scoring games, while teams near the bottom have generally been involved in lower-scoring games.
A high combined total can be produced by strong offense, weak defense or both. A low combined total can reflect strong goaltending, lower offensive production or consistently tight games. Looking at GF/G and GA/G beside Total/G provides useful context.
NHL Shots on Goal Per Game
Shots on goal provide another useful view of offensive activity. When detailed game statistics are available from the external data source, the tracker collects a team's shots and calculates average shots on goal per game, displayed as SOG/G.
Shot volume can provide information that final goals alone do not show. A team might generate many shots but score relatively few goals during a short period, while another team may score at an unusually high rate despite producing fewer shots. These differences can help users understand why recent goal totals may not fully describe offensive pressure.
Shots on goal should not be treated as a complete measure of offensive quality. Shot location, expected goals, rebounds, screens, rush opportunities, power plays and other factors affect scoring probability. The SOG/G category is included as a simple, understandable supplementary statistic.
Some historical events may not expose detailed box-score data through the external source. When shots are unavailable, the page displays a dash rather than inventing or estimating missing statistics.

Why NHL Short-Term Statistics Can Change Quickly

One practical approach is to analyze three separate periods. Begin with the previous seven days to identify immediate changes. Expand the range to fourteen days to determine whether those patterns remain visible. Finally, compare a thirty-day sample for broader context.
If a team ranks near the top in GF/G across all three ranges, its strong offensive output has persisted longer than a club that ranks first during seven days but near the middle of the league across thirty days.
The same approach can be used for goals allowed, winning percentage, average combined totals, shot volume and Over-Under streaks. There is no single correct range for every analysis. The best sample depends on whether you are studying immediate form, medium-term trends or a broader portion of the NHL season.
NHL Regular Season and Stanley Cup Playoff Context
Regular-season and playoff hockey can produce different statistical environments. Postseason matchups repeatedly feature the same opponents, coaching adjustments become more important and goaltender usage may become more concentrated. For that reason, users analyzing playoff games may prefer to compare playoff periods separately from larger regular-season samples.
The date controls make this possible without requiring separate tools. Select dates covering a particular playoff round, a regular-season month, a road trip or another relevant interval and the calculations will use only completed games contained in that range.
NHL Home and Away Game Context
Team detail tables show whether each result occurred at home or away. Home and road environments can influence matchups, travel demands, line changes and scheduling. This version of the tracker does not calculate separate home and road rankings, but the game history allows users to review venue information when interpreting recent streaks.
If a team has an unusually strong or weak recent record, opening its detail view can help reveal whether the selected period contained a large number of home games, road games or a concentrated travel schedule.
Understanding NHL Sample Size
Sample size is important in every form of sports statistics. A team can produce extreme results over two or three games simply because hockey contains substantial short-term variance. Larger samples generally provide more context but can also hide recent changes.
This creates a tradeoff between recency and stability. Short ranges are more responsive to current form but can be noisy. Longer ranges contain more games but mix current performance with older results. Comparing multiple ranges is often more informative than relying on one fixed window.
NHL Team Trends and Historical Game Totals
Historical game-total analysis is useful when the same benchmark is applied consistently across a period. Using 6.2 goals for every loaded game allows users to compare team scoring environments with the same historical reference.
This should not be confused with reconstructing historical betting results. Actual sportsbook Over-Under lines vary from one matchup to another and change over time. A game classified as Over against a 6.2 benchmark may not have been an Over against the actual market line used for that matchup.

NHL Data Availability and Browser Processing
The NHL Team Trends Tracker operates in the browser and does not require a NodnWebTools account. Sorting, filtering, streak calculations, Over-Under classifications and CSV generation are performed client-side after game information has been requested.
Data availability depends on the external sports information service, the user's internet connection and browser security policies. External services may change endpoints, response formats, rate limits or cross-origin access rules. When this occurs, some or all information may temporarily fail to load.
Detailed shot statistics require additional box-score information. The page attempts to retrieve those statistics for completed events, but missing detailed data does not prevent a game from contributing to wins, losses, goals scored, goals allowed or game-total analysis.
Longer date ranges contain more games and can require more network requests. The tracker therefore limits the maximum analysis window to forty-five days, which is generally sufficient for recent NHL team trend research while keeping browser processing practical.
