What Is an NFL Team Trends Tracker?
An NFL trends tracker combines the results of multiple football games and turns them into team-level statistics. A standard NFL scoreboard answers a simple question about a specific game: who played and what was the final score? A trends tracker is intended to answer broader questions about a sequence of games.
Which NFL teams have won most frequently during the selected period? Which teams currently have the longest winning streak? Which offenses have scored the most points per game? Which defenses have allowed the fewest points? Which teams have repeatedly played games above a selected combined scoring benchmark? Which clubs have participated in lower-scoring games? These are examples of questions that can be explored with this page.
Date-based analysis is particularly useful in the NFL because the regular season is relatively short compared with leagues that play dozens of games every month. Each result represents a meaningful percentage of a team's season, and injuries, quarterback changes, weather conditions and schedule strength can produce significant changes over a small number of weeks.
Users can compare recent two-week, thirty-day, sixty-day or longer periods. A short range emphasizes immediate form, while a larger range creates a broader sample. Comparing more than one period can provide better context than relying on one fixed timeframe.
NFL Wins, Losses and Ties
NFL Wins
A win is recorded when a team finishes a completed game with more points than its opponent. If a game ends 27β20, the team scoring 27 receives a victory and the opponent receives a loss. The Wins column counts all victories contained within the selected date range.
Sorting by wins can provide a quick picture of which NFL teams produced the most victories during the period. However, teams may have different numbers of games in a particular date window because of bye weeks, the boundaries of the selected range or postseason advancement.
NFL Losses
A loss is recorded when a team's final score is lower than its opponent's score. The Losses column can be sorted to compare teams with the most or fewest defeats in the loaded sample.
Loss totals alone do not describe how competitive a team has been. A club can lose several close games, while another may suffer fewer but much larger defeats. The detailed score history provides additional context behind the aggregate record.
NFL Ties
NFL regular-season games can occasionally end in ties when neither team leads after the permitted overtime period. The tracker records a tie for both teams when the final score is level. Ties interrupt both winning and losing streaks because they belong to neither category.
NFL Winning Percentage
This page calculates a simple winning percentage by dividing total wins by completed games in the selected range. If a team wins four of five games, its win rate is 80 percent. If another team wins five of eight games, it has more total victories but a lower winning percentage.
Winning percentage is useful when comparing teams that have played different numbers of games. A team can have fewer wins because it had a bye week or because the date range begins immediately after one of its games. Rate-based comparison helps normalize those differences.
Users should still consider sample size. A 100 percent win rate across two games does not provide the same amount of evidence as an 80 percent record over ten games. Short NFL samples can change quickly.
NFL Winning Streaks and Losing Streaks
Winning streaks measure consecutive victories ending with the latest game contained in the selected period. If a team won its latest five loaded games, its active winning streak is displayed as five. Losing streaks are calculated in the same way for consecutive defeats.
A tie interrupts both streak categories. The calculation is also limited to games contained within the chosen date range. If a team's official streak began before the selected start date, the page can display a shorter streak than the official NFL statistic.
Streaks provide an intuitive description of recent form, but they should not automatically be treated as predictive. A winning streak can occur against weaker opposition, while a losing streak may include several strong opponents or close games.
NFL Total Points and Over-Under Trend Analysis
One of the primary features of the NFL Team Trends Tracker is customizable combined-score analysis. The final scores of both teams are added together to calculate a total. A 27β20 game produces 47 combined points. A 17β13 game contains 30 total points, while a 35β31 game produces 66.
Each completed game's total is compared with the benchmark entered in the Total Points Line field. If the combined score is higher than the selected line, the game is classified as Over. If the combined score is lower, it is classified as Under. If the values are exactly equal, the result is classified as Push.
Why the Default NFL Total Is 46.0 Points
The default value of 46.0 points provides a recent historical league-level scoring reference. NFL teams averaged approximately 23 points per game during the 2025 regular season. Because every game includes two teams, the corresponding combined scoring environment was approximately 46 points per game.
The purpose of this default is to provide a convenient starting benchmark for statistical comparison. It does not represent a sportsbook line for every NFL game, and it should not be interpreted as a prediction.
Actual market totals are matchup-specific. They may vary based on offensive and defensive strength, quarterback availability, injuries, weather, venue, pace expectations, recent performance and other factors. Users can therefore replace 46.0 with any benchmark they want to study.
NFL Over Results
If the selected benchmark is 46.0 and a game finishes 28β24, the teams combine for 52 points and the result is classified as Over. A 31β20 game contains 51 combined points and is also classified as Over.
The Over column counts all games involving each team that finished above the selected threshold. Because the same line is applied to every game in the sample, the statistic provides a consistent comparison across teams.
NFL Under Results
A game ending 20β17 produces 37 combined points. Against a 46.0 benchmark, that game is classified as Under. A 24β14 result produces 38 points and is also Under.
Teams with high Under counts may have been involved in lower-scoring game environments during the selected period. This can result from strong defense, inefficient offense, slower game scripts, weather or a combination of factors.
NFL Push Results
A Push occurs when the combined score exactly equals a whole-number benchmark. For example, a 26β20 final contains exactly 46 points and is a Push against the default 46.0 line.
If a half-point benchmark such as 45.5 or 46.5 is selected, Push results are impossible because NFL final scores are whole numbers. Half-point benchmarks can therefore be useful when users prefer every game to be categorized strictly as Over or Under.
NFL Consecutive Over and Under Streaks
In addition to counting total Over and Under results, the tracker calculates ending Over and Under streaks. The process starts with the most recent completed game in the selected range and works backward until the classification changes.
Suppose a team's latest combined totals are 54, 51, 48, 39 and 42 against a 46-point benchmark. The most recent three games finished Over, so the current Over streak is three. The earlier 39-point game stops the sequence.
Under streaks are calculated using the same method. A Push interrupts both Over and Under streaks. Changing the benchmark can therefore materially alter consecutive result statistics.
Average NFL Points Scored Per Game
PF/G represents average points scored by a team during the selected period. The calculation adds all points scored and divides by completed games. If a team scores 28, 31, 20 and 27 points over four games, it averages 26.5 points per game.
Sorting by PF/G provides a quick way to identify the highest-scoring offenses in the sample. However, scoring output should be interpreted alongside opponent strength, turnovers, defensive touchdowns, special-teams scores and field position.
An offense can benefit from short fields created by interceptions or fumble recoveries, while defensive or return touchdowns can increase the team score without being generated by the offense. PF/G is therefore a team scoring statistic rather than a pure offensive efficiency measure.
Average NFL Points Allowed Per Game
PA/G measures how many points opponents scored against each team during the selected period. Lower values generally indicate stronger recent scoring prevention.
If a team allows 17, 14, 24 and 20 points across four games, it has surrendered 75 points and averages 18.75 points allowed per game. Sorting by PA/G can identify teams that have recently limited opponent scoring.
Points allowed are affected by more than defense. Offensive turnovers, special-teams mistakes and short fields can create scoring opportunities that make a defense's raw PA/G look worse. The statistic should therefore be considered alongside game context.
Average Combined NFL Game Total
Total/G represents the average combined score of a team's games. It is calculated by adding points scored and points allowed and dividing by completed games.
If a team averages 27 points scored and 22 points allowed, its games average 49 total points. Teams near the top of the Total/G ranking have participated in relatively high-scoring contests during the selected period.
A high Total/G can result from elite offense, poor defense or both. A low Total/G may reflect strong defense, weaker offense or lower-scoring game scripts. Comparing PF/G and PA/G helps explain the reason behind the combined total.
NFL Offensive Yards Per Game
When detailed game statistics are available, the tracker collects total offensive yards and calculates average yards per game. YDS/G provides additional context beyond points because it measures how much field position an offense generated through rushing and passing production.
A team can accumulate many yards without scoring efficiently if drives end in turnovers, missed field goals or failures in the red zone. Another team can produce fewer yards but score more points because of excellent field position or efficient red-zone offense.
For this reason, YDS/G and PF/G should be viewed together. Large differences between yardage and scoring may highlight unusually strong or weak conversion efficiency.
Detailed offensive statistics are obtained from additional game data. Some historical events may not expose all box-score categories through the external data source. Missing yardage values are shown as unavailable rather than estimated.

Why NFL Short-Term Statistics Can Change Quickly
NFL statistics can change substantially over a relatively small number of games because the schedule contains far fewer games than basketball, baseball or hockey seasons. One unusually high-scoring or low-scoring performance can materially affect a team's short-term average.

If a team ranks near the top in PF/G across both short and long periods, its scoring strength has persisted longer than a team that ranks first only during the most recent two weeks.
The same comparison can be performed with points allowed, Total/G, yardage, winning percentage and Over-Under results. Different statistics may tell different stories about the same team.
NFL Regular Season and Playoff Context

Historical NFL Game Totals Versus Betting Totals
The Over-Under feature should be understood as a custom historical classification tool rather than a historical sportsbook database. One fixed benchmark is applied consistently to every completed game in the loaded sample.
Actual betting totals vary from game to game and may move before kickoff. A game classified as Over against a 46.0 benchmark may have had an actual market total of 42.5, 47.5 or another number.

Detailed offensive yardage requires additional game information. The tracker attempts to retrieve this data for completed games. If detailed statistics are unavailable, the game still contributes to wins, losses, scoring averages and Over-Under statistics while YDS/G may be unavailable.
Longer date ranges contain more games and require more requests. The tool therefore limits a single analysis to 150 days, which is sufficient to cover most of an NFL regular season while keeping browser processing practical.
